The work sponsorship visa has become highly utilised by employers in recent years to fill the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) and labour shortage from small businesses all the way to large corporations. This visa allows the Australian company to sponsor and nominate workers to fill their skill shortages. It allows the visa holder up to four year stay in Australia. There is no age limit to this visa and has other criteria that one must meet as it is a temporary visa.
The visa was designed for Australian employers to fill the local labour market shortages with overseas skilled workers on a temporary basis. In addition, it believes that by employing overseas workers will be beneficial to the local economy. The sponsoring company must show that they were unable to fill the labour shortage locally in the nomination application.
The different types of TSS visas:
There are now three streams of TSS visa:
There are two lists of occupations the Short-Term stream of occupation list which allows visa holders to stay and work in Australia for a period of up to two years.
The Medium-Term stream allows nominated employees to live and work in Australia for a period of up to four years.
The Labour Agreement stream
To sponsor an employee under this, stream the employer must organise a labour agreement with the Government. This requires much negotiating by the company in order to fill the necessary requirements.
The application process for the company itself is a two-part process.
