Australia has a shortage of skilled workers in some industries. So the Australian government made the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa 482 available to employers to hire international employees with the right skills where they cannot fill the job with a qualified Australian worker.
Depending on your skills, you can live and work full time for an approved sponsor for up to four years when you hold a temporary visa. You can travel to and from Australia during this time. You can bring your family with you, and they can also work and go to school in Australia.
Before employers can fill positions with skilled workers from overseas using the skill shortage visa subclass, they must test the market and try to fill the position with a skilled Australian worker.
Not all occupations are available. They are targeted at areas experiencing qualified labour shortages. Over time, the supply and demand for these occupations will change. This means so will the occupations available for nomination when applying for a TSS visa. The main purpose of this visa is to respond to Australia’s changing labour market needs.
The TSS visa replaced the 457 visa in 2018. It is now the most common visa organisations use to sponsor international employees in Australia. It can lead to permanent residency.
